Magpet-North Cotabato-- An outstanding student from Magpet National High School was chosen by Magpet LGU to be its “One Town-One Scholar” program recipient this school year. Agnes Myra Farre, class valedictorian of MNHS whose scholastic and academic records passed the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) qualifications and requirements will avail the benefits of the program that includes free tuition fee and a semestral allowance equivalent to at least P15,000.
Farre would also enjoy the program’s full scholarship in her entire college with her chosen course provided her grades are maintained. Farre’s passing to the program was welcomed by Magpet Mayor Efren Piñol as a heartwarming news not only for the Farre family but for the entire town of Magpet. “This only shows that being poor is not a hindrance to one’s success rather it is a challenge for the students like Farre” Mayor Piñol said in his radio program “Ang Magpeteño”. Magpet LGU’s vision of sending to school as many poor but deserving students is in line with CHED’s objective of selecting top high school graduates who find it difficult to enter college education. For this school year, CHED had already released P46 million to finance recipients of “One Town-One Scholar” all over the country. Like Magpet, other municipal lgu’s in North Cotabato are expected to already have endorsed their scholar for the school opening. During the meeting of League of the Municipalities of the Philippines- North Cotabato Chapter held at the provincial capitol last April 2009, Mayor Piñol instructed all the member local chief executives to help in the selection of top graduating students from their municipalities for possible inclusion in the scholarship program. Earlier that mont, CHED has issued memorandum order no. 4 which contains the guidelines for the implementation of “One Town, One Scholar Program”. (James Calma) |
