A host of activities meant to highlight Magpet’s agriculture and tourism have been set as the town gears up for its 46th Foundation Anniversary on August 13. An Agro Fair featuring the various products from the different barangays of Magpet will be again among this year’s top activities, while a white water river tubing adventure and a mountain bike race will provide nature and adventure lovers a taste of Magpet’s exciting natural features.
Contributions of various individuals, organizations and barangays to the overall development of Magpet will also be recognized during the barangay day on August 12. Leading the list of people to be cited are those behind the successful implementation of water system projects in Ilian and Kisandal, a school building project in Pangao-an, and the Day Care Center of Gubatan. Each of these barangays will receive the KALAHI Sustainability Award with an equivalent of P5,000.00 worth of projects. Other activities lined up for the week long celebration from August 7-13 are drum & lyre and street dancing competitions, a motocross race, a professional boxing tournament, and the traditional horse fight featuring top-rated horses from Compostela Valley Province, South Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Sarangani, Bukidnon, and North Cotabato. A thanksgiving mass and community parade shall highlight the culmination program on August 13. The Basketball championship game will follow right after the program and it will end with a Disco ng Bayan at the Municipal Gymnasium. Five decades ago, Magpet was just a regular barrio of Kidapawan with Dominador L. Apostol, Sr. as the first Teniente del Barrio. It was created into a municipality by virtue of Republic Act 3721 signed by then President Diosdado Macapagal on June 22, 1963.
